HACU receives grant from Capital One to support Hispanic-Serving Institutions Immersion Program

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities has been awarded a $570,000 Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSI) Immersion Program grant from Capital One to support various initiatives that will fund leadership and career opportunities for students, faculty and staff at HACU-member HSIs.

“Capital One’s commitment to HACU’s mission is exemplified by this grant that expands leadership development opportunities for students, and fellowships for HACU’s Leadership Academy and the Enlace Mid-Level Leadership program,” said HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores. “We are immensely grateful for this grant that will provide valuable opportunities and support educational success at institutions across the country.”

The grant supports various initiatives, including a collaboration with Capital One on the HSIs Immersion Program for 50 students at Capital One’s Plano, Texas campus. The four-day program provides networking activities, career and leadership sessions, mentorship with Capital One leadership, a case competition and other activities introducing students to Capital One and industry career opportunities. Participating students will also be sponsored to attend the ¡Adelante! Leadership Institute, the student track at HACU's 37th Annual Conference, October 28-30, 2023, in Chicago.

The Capital One grant also provides funding for 10 fellowships for the La Academia de Liderazgo/Leadership Academy’s fifth cohort and 10 fellows for the inaugural class of the Enlace Mid-Level Leadership program, both which prepare leaders in academia for advancement to higher level positions.

Additional support will also be provided for Voces Nuevas, a student advocacy and leadership program designed to elevate, uplift and empower undergraduate students' voices. The students selected will be sponsored to attend the National Capitol Forum on Hispanic Higher Education, April 9-10, 2024, in Washington, D.C.
