HACU attends Department of Commerce event in Washington, D.C.

The Hispanic Association of College and Universities’ President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and HACU Government Relations staff attended an Economic Latino Roundtable, and a National Youth Summit held by the Department of Commerce in Washington, D.C. on Sept. 18 and 21, 2023.

HACU Senior Vice President for Policy and Government Relations Lena T. Rodriguez attended the Department of Commerce Economic Latino Roundtable. The event featured Deputy Secretary of Commerce Don Graves and focused on how the Department is implementing landmark legislation to benefit the Latino community.

At the Youth Summit, Flores gave opening remarks alongside Department of Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo, Department of Education Secretary Miguel Cardona, Department of Labor Acting Secretary Julie Su, NASA Administrator Bill Nelson, and District of Columbia Public Schools Chancellor Lewis Ferebee.

The Summit was a gathering to engage young people and amplify resources for youth entrepreneurship, internships, apprenticeships, government opportunities and other key resources for them in partnership with federal agencies, businesses, faith leaders, and communities across the United States.

Summit activities included an interactive mini fair and breakout group discussions on business development, entrepreneurship, economic development, access to data and innovation, climate resilience and equity. Partner agencies participating included:
