HACU Webinar: Alignment and Intentionality: Lessons from a Diverse Faculty Recruitment Program

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities invites you to an upcoming webinar on excellence in leadership entitled, “Alignment and Intentionality: Lessons from a Diverse Faculty Recruitment Program,” on Sept 21, 3:00 pm CT, presented by Lina Rincón, Ph.D., associate professor of sociology at Sacramento State University.

This webinar will address the challenges and opportunities of a program created to increase Hispanic representation at a four-year public Hispanic-Serving Institution. Unclear definitions of diversity, power differentials within search committees and lack of alignment between program and leadership goals are discussed, as will the importance of constructing clear goals and expected outcomes to identify best models fostering diverse faculty recruitment and retention.

Also discussed will be the effect of search and recruitment procedures on tenure-track, underrepresented faculty members and different strategies to address the impacts, the implications of the recruitment of Hispanic/Latinx candidates on faculty retention, and the role of faculty diversity and inclusion programs in cultivating leadership among Hispanic/Latinx faculty.

Lina Rincón, Ph.D. is a sociologist and faculty developer with extensive experience in higher education settings, previously serving as assistant director of the Center for Excellence in Learning, Teaching, Scholarship and Service as a tenured associate professor at Framingham State University. Rincón received a bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Universidad de Los Andes, and a doctorate from the State University of New York at Albany.
