HACU holds Illinois Higher Education Convening at 37th Annual Conference

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities held a Illinois Higher Education Convening on Oct. 29, 2023, for attendees of HACU’s 37th Annual Conference from the state, addressing topics of “Common Themes Across Latinx Student Needs,” “Building Servingness,” “Leadership, Mentorship for Latinx Higher Education Professionals,” and “Affirmative Action and the Journey Forward.”

Welcome remarks were given by HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and HACU Executive Director of Member Services Richard Montez.

Speaking at the convening were Luis Duarte, executive director, Latin American Recruitment and Educational Services, University of Illinois, Chicago; Luis Narváez, Ed.D., associate vice chancellor for adult education, City Colleges of Chicago; Emmanuel López, director of the Latinx Resource Center, Governors State University; David Potash, Ph.D., president, Wilbur Wright College; Roberto C. Valadez, vice president of student development, Joliet Junior College; Oscar Rodriguez, vice president of enrollment management, Chicago State University; Blanca Jara, chief of staff, partnership for college completion; and Moises Orozco Villicaña, Ph.D., director of first year outreach and support, University of Illinois Chicago.
