HACU’s 29th Annual National Capitol Forum participants prepare for Capitol Hill visits

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities 29th Annual National Capitol Forum on Hispanic Higher Education’s second day on April 10, 2024, began with a Congressional Plenary featuring a number of members of Congress in attendance providing remarks, including Senator Bernie Sanders, Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez, Rep. Joaquin Castro, Sen. Alex Padilla, Representative Delia Ramirez, a video message from Senator Chuck Schumer, Representative Jamaal Bowman, and closing remarks from Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm. The focus of the plenary was on Hispanic-Serving Institutions in the energy space.

Capitol Forum attendees departed for Congressional visits after the plenary for a full day of meetings with senators, representatives and their staff, concluding with a Capitol Hill Reception, “Celebrating the Champions of Hispanic Higher Education.”

The Capitol Forum and over 150 Congressional meetings were coordinated by HACU Government Relations.

After the Forum concluded a round table discussion was held with U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, HACU staff, and college and university presidents and representatives.
