HACU and GAP Inc. launch fashion design contest

San Antonio, TX – Student fashion designers will have until June 18, 2010 to enter the Design Your Future/Diseña Tu Futuro competition presented by the Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) and Gap Inc. For the third consecutive year, the competition will offer fashion design students at HACU-member institutions a chance to earn a scholarship by designing an original suit appropriate to wear for a job interview.

Five finalists will be selected from the entries to compete in the final round. The finalists will create and model their designs at a fashion runway to take place at a Student Track event at HACU’s 24th Annual Conference, September 18-20, 2010, at Hilton San Diego Bayfront, San Diego, CA.  

Finalists will receive:

  • Notification of selection the week of June 21, 2010.
  • Travel accommodations to the annual conference
  • A scholarship award ranging from $1,000 to $5,000 to be determined in the final round
  • An article with photos published in The Voice of Hispanic Higher Education, which will highlight the competition.

To enter the contest, students must submit an online application, an illustration of their suit design and supporting documentation by June 1, 2010. Students must be enrolled at the time of application and award, at one of the following HACU-member institutions:
