Flores speaks about HSIs during Cinco de Mayo event

HACU President and CEO Antonio R. Flores was among the speakers at an employment roundtable in commemoration of Cinco de Mayo. The event, Creating Career Pathways and Building Pipelines to Post-secondary Education for Latino Adult Learners, was hosted by the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL). 

Flores discussed the importance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (HSIs) in preparing the Hispanic workforce. Currently, half the nation's 281 HSIs are community colleges and play a vital role in meeting the needs for an educated workforce.

Other roundtable speakers included Jane Oates, Assistant Secretary, Employment Training Administration (ETA); Juan Sepúlveda, Director, White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanics (WHIEEH) ; The Honorable Charlie Gonzalez, Chair, Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute; Sonia Gutierrez, Founder, Carlos Rosario Charter School for Adult Learners; Jeannine LaPrad, President, Corporation for a Skilled Workforce ; Sarita Brown, President, Excelencia in Education; Eduardo Padrón, President, Miami Dade College; Richard R. Rush, President, California State University, Channel Islands;  and Steve William Russell, Chief People Officer, McDonald’s USA.

An MOU between HACU and DOL was signed following the program.
