 HACU’s 14th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute to focus on how HSIs are serving Hispanic students

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities (HACU) will host its 14th Annual Latino Higher Education Leadership Institute, a pre-conference event of HACU’s 29th Annual Conference. The institute will take place Oct. 10, 2015, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach Hotel in Miami Beach, Fla.

The theme of the institute is “Developing Truly Hispanic-SERVING Institutions Through Leadership” and discussion topics will focus on making institutions more responsive to the needs of underrepresented students. Included in the institute are morning and afternoon keynotes, a Networking Lunch, Career Development and Leadership Roundtables, and a Presidents Panel on "The Role of Leadership in Hispanic-Serving Institutions."

Featured speakers and presidents panelists include:

  • Silas H. Abrego, Ed.D. - member, CSU Board of Trustees, vice president for student affairs, Emeritus, CSU Fullerton 
  • Rev. Msgr. Franklyn M. Casale - president, St. Thomas University
  • Beatriz T. Espinoza, Ph.D. - president, Coastal Bend College
  • Sue Henderson, Ph.D. - president, New Jersey City University
  • Betty Overton-Adkins, Ph.D. - professor of clinical practice at the Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education, and director, National Forum on Higher Education for the Public Good
