HACU on the Road visits Community College of Aurora

The Hispanic Association of Colleges and Universities President and CEO Antonio R. Flores and staff were in Aurora, Colorado on Nov. 14, 2023, as part of the HACU on the Road tour. The Community College of Aurora hosted the event on their campus for invited participants. The event brought together members of the CCA community and leaders of Hispanic-Serving Institutions from the surrounding area.

CCA Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion and Chief of Staff Angela Marquez gave opening remarks, followed by a welcome from CCA President Mordecai Brownlee. HACU President Flores followed with a presentation where he discussed the state of Hispanic higher education, priority issues for HSIs, and HACU programs and initiatives.

Colorado Community College System Chancellor Joe Garcia and Our Lady of the Lake University President and HACU Governing Board member Abel Chavez were also in attendance and gave brief remarks. CCA Dean of Student Success and Senior Student Affairs Officer and current La Academia Fellow Reyna Anaya and CCA student Ben Salazar also shared with attendees their experiences with HACU programs.

A Community Forum followed the event, featuring HACU President Flores, CCA President Brownlee, CCA Vice President Marquez, CCA Associate Vice President of Partner Success Robert Montoya, and Colorado Department of Local Affairs State Demographer Elizabeth Garner.

HACU on the Road is an initiative designed to promote national and international dialogue about the state of Hispanic higher education among chancellors, presidents of colleges and universities, superintendents of Hispanic-Serving School Districts, corporate leaders, and other supporters of Hispanic higher education.

HACU will be hosting its 38th Annual Conference in Aurora, Colorado at the Gaylord Rockies Resort & Convention Center on Nov. 1-3, 2024. For more information on HSIs in Colorado click here.
